The Bedford Area Middle School had not been updated in nearly 30 years. Gatter & Diehl was engaged by the architect and school district to provide the MEP/FP and commissioning expertise to optimize the system designs. 

 

The project called for 15,000 sq. ft. of new addition combined with renovations to the existing 85,000 sq. ft. with emphasis on attaining USGBC LEED certification. The goal was to realize a project that was not only energy saving, but also a healthy environment for learning and to demonstrate leadership in energy and environment within Bedford County.

 

The result is a building that increased by 15,000 sq. ft., yet lowered the energy costs by 25% post construction, and more importantly provides for a tremendous educational environment for students.
