Sometimes in life, you know what you were meant to do with your career at a young age. For our senior electrical designer, Rob, that was indeed the case.

As a bright and talented student in junior high school, Rob was fascinated in ancient structures with their advanced stone carvings and construction methods from the Mayan’s, Egyptians and Romans. He decided to enroll in the high-tech program where he could learn those methods of the industry, and he was hooked on it ever since.

“I really enjoyed my drafting and electronic courses in high school,” explained Rob.  “So, I pursued drafting in college, and I thought it would be a great career. During my time in college, I had opportunities to sample various trades of the construction industry and electrical really stuck out to me. I interned for an electrical engineering company in Pittsburgh and during that internship, I was hooked.”

Rob is now in his 15th year at Gatter & Diehl, earning the title of senior level designer, receiving his LEED Green Associate certification, and overseeing the entire electrical team. He’s also an integral part in business development by traveling across the country and meeting with new and existing clients. But despite all of the professional accolades Rob has obtained, his biggest accomplishment is something a little more humbling.

“I feel that my most satisfying accomplishments are having the opportunity to apply energy saving methods to our projects to save energy and money for our clients, and most importantly help our carbon footprint,” said Rob. “I also have the incredible pleasure to train new staff and manage the electrical team. It’s really satisfying to train new designers out of college and seeing them grow in their career.”

During his tenure with us, Rob has performed various duties such as calculating numerous energy saving strategies, arc flash studies, and field surveys. These types of engineering performances make Rob’s job way more interesting than just an ‘electrical designer’ to say the least. Although he excels in performing different types of projects and duties, he mentioned one particular project that stands out to him.

“If I had to pick a project that stood out to me, it was working on five buildings on the TE Connectivity Fulling Mill campus,” noted Rob. “I had the opportunity to specify some decorative fixtures throughout the project that made a grand statement in the main lobbies. We also got to use DC lighting for one project since TE was responsible for making one of the components in the DC lighting systems. It was really unique and fun how we integrated what TE developed into our own line of work”.

As innovative and skilled Rob is inside the office, he’s just as creative and talented outside of the office. One of his main hobbies he enjoys is art through airbrushing where can customize just about anything he gets his hands on. He also creates large scale drama sets for his church’s children’s productions. He even has an adventurous side to him as well. He enjoys stand-up paddle boarding, hiking, kayaking, and rock climbing. In his leisure time, he likes watching his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers.

Rob is the type of person that no task or duty is too big for him to accomplish. He’s a model professional for all of our employees to look up to, and he’s a joyful and friendly person to be around with. Rob has exceeded above and beyond our expectations and, we’re thankful to have him on our team.
